Tuesday Evening Social Club > Ensuring Safety
|
Tuesday Evening Social Club TESC is a closed group which means that the detail of where the group meetings are held is not published. In this way, people are not able to just drop in unannounced. We do this for safety reasons because most of our members are Vulnerable Adults. No one can come to the TESC without meeting, or at least speaking to, Vicky on one of the other members first. People who attend are usually known to someone else in the group, though referrals can be made to Vicky, through BTSS, by anyone. Vicky or a named member of TESC will make sure they are present when a person attends for the first time in order to show them around the building and introduce them to the rest of the group. The first time a person comes we want to assess whether or not they found it fun and helpful as well as whether or not there appear to be any risks presented to the person or by that person to the rest of the group. There is no ‘category’ of person that is excluded from the group, but it is necessary that people are able to see to their own personal hygiene needs, recognise any dietary restrictions they may have, can manage their own medical conditions, know about personal boundaries so that they do not inappropriately touch anyone else, and that they are amenable to following instructions from another member of TESC. Sharing activities and courteous behaviour are always a plus! If a person is travelling to an activity outside of the usual TESC sessions, it is essential that they are able to manage their own money, are familiar and able to use public transportation and do not represent a risk to themselves or the public when they are out with us. If people have family or support workers they want to bring along, we welcome their attendance at TESC.
